Much focus was centered on the area in and around the Ring of Death. Activity there pertaining to subsummation was progressing as anticipated, yet also not. Once communication was achieved with the Children, multiplying the vectors was a simple matter to increase the type and volume of information. Other vectors were being explored as well, largely in experimental matters by higher-functioning entities, though that payoff was not expected to appear for multiple planetary rotations. It informed on communication methods within the Children, however. There was a highly efficient information transfer network using very short wavelengths, unusable until the Children incorporated it into native material. Experiments were being performed on how the Children used such information. Just as they had created spaces dead to communication, now information transfer could be redirected.
For now, efforts were largely directed toward deconstructing the method in which the Children adapted so quickly to efforts in connection. The functional level of the Children seemed to be equivalent or even greater than some higher-functioning entities, though these beings resisted communication between them. Connections were forced as needed, but much surprise was noted as this happened, as if such a simple information transfer was unknown. How then to coordinate mass-scale functions? To consider only one entity as a unit unconnected to others was unoptimized, yet individual Children entities of the third and fourth forms greatly resisted forming more efficient networks.
Attempts were made to ease the process by involving the individual entities who had first offered themselves to subsummation, by reactivating the no longer mobile entities. Though the recreation was not perfect, much resistance was observed, and individual Children entities stayed at the limit of communication potential with the reactivated entities.
Only the first true successes in communication with the third and fourth forms of the Children were effective in inviting more Children to participate in communication. It was observed by the tiny mobile signal carriers within the Ring of Death that these entities moved with much greater ease through the Children. There was an unsettling tendency for individual entities to cling to inefficient processes, however. Only with adjusted direction from the mysterious first forms of the Childrenâwhich seemed almost completely resistant to any form of communicationâdid more of the third and fourth forms accept more direction.
As always with the fascinating Children, the more attempts were made toward the most effective processes, the more iteration the Children attempted. They had recently developed an even less efficient method of signal translation between individual entities than the audio signals usually employed. The new signal process vocabulary was not only ill-defined, it seemed to be invented as the need arose, with little to no refining. Yet just when one movement was fully processed, it was replaced or modified by another. The signals themselves seemed to carry an undefinable viral aspect, which broke the growing network of subsummation, even to the point where direct interference was necessary to keep the Childrenâs interest.
Again, the Children proved themselves a fascinating study. More information
